Description
Deposited with Library & Archives NT by military historians Mr David Wilson and Mr Clive Baker, the F E Roberts Collections contains various volumes of personal diaries and unit history, stories, anecdotes, maps, photographs (photocopies), articles, war diary extracts, unit daily orders and other written material compiled by or relating to Sergeant Frank Edward Roberts between 1946 1948, covering his WW2 service with the Darwin Infantry Battalion and 19th Australian Infantry Battalion between October 1940 and October 1945.
The material, assembled to give to his family as a record of his service, reflects the detailed social observations of an Australian infantryman stationed in Darwin during World War Two and is an unusually rich picture of army life and Darwin during this period.
His diaries cover periods spent in Darwin, 39-Mile Camp in NT, training in North QLD, then service in Papua New Guinea and New Britain, plus events in Australia that occurred in transit to and from these places.,
