History

The Unit was formed as 8 Mobile Works Squadron at Ascot Vale, Victoria, 1 January 1943. They worked at Venn, Fenton, Long, Manbulloo and Melville Bay. They left the Northern Territory, July 1944 before sailing for Morotai in the Moluccas, Tarakan Island off the coast of Borneo and Balikpapan on the east coast of the island of Borneo, in the Indonesian province of East Kalimantan. The Squadron was disbanded at Mt. Druitt, New South Wales, December 1945.,
