History
Manunda was requisitioned September 1939 and was fitted out as a hospital ship in July 1940. Her previous service was as an interstate coastal passenger vessel. Manunda spent five weeks in Darwin carrying out routine tasks, practicing evacuation procedures and visiting military hospitals before she was bombed on 19 February 1942 killing 12 people. She left for Fremantle with 266 patients. After the war Manunda was used to transport released Prisoners of War back to Australia and twice called into Darwin.,
