Aboriginal dancers at the ceremony to unveil the plaque to commemorate Matthias Ulungura (Opiato Cawee). Plaque reads: "This memorial was erected by the Northern Territory Government in recognition of Matthias Ulungura 1921-1980 Who, unarmed, on 19th Feb. 1942 on Melville Island captured the first Japanese prisoner of war (a zero pilot) to be taken on Australian soil." Sitting under the canvas is Chief Minister, Ian Tuxworth and Leader of the Opposition, Bob Collins (yellow shirt to the right of cairn). His story was told in the NT News 18 November 1959, p.1,6.
