Description
Coastal dolphins are widespread throughout the coastal waters of the Northern Territory. The Darwin region has populations of three coastal dolphin species: Australian humpback, Australian snubfin and bottlenose. In response to the construction of a large liquefied natural gas project in Darwin Harbour (Ichthys LNG Project), a coastal dolphin monitoring program was established in 2011 and finished in 2015. The initial monitoring program was extended once construction had been completed as part of a voluntary offset agreement between the Ichthys LNG Project and the Northern Territory Government. The second program commenced in 2016 and finished in 2019.,
