Technical Report 8/2020,
Mapping the Future,
Date
2020-06-18,
Location
Gunn Point area,
Description
Mapping the Future is a five-year (2018-22) program funded by the Northern Territory Government to undertake water, land, soil and biodiversity assessments in areas with high development potential. The goal of these studies is to support sustainable development of natural resources and to de-risk investment.
This report is one of several technical reports describing the biophysical resources of the Gunn Point peninsula, the others addressing terrestrial biodiversity, marine and coastal biodiversity, groundwater availability, and agricultural land suitability. An accompanying summary report provides an integrated overview of the soil, land and water resources and biodiversity values of the Gunn Point peninsula.
The Gunn Point area covers a total of 71,063ha (710km2) and is in close proximity to Darwin and the surrounding rural area. The vegetation communities are diverse and a number of these are recognised as having important biodiversity values and ecological significance.
Seventy three map units defining the vegetation and the non-vegetation associates have been built to describe the communities across Gunn Point.
Significant habitats and wetlands encompass 30,230ha (302.3km2) and account for 43% of the Gunn Point area.,
