6,000 ton seaplane carrier HMAS Albatross and cruisers HMA ships Canberra and Australia arrived Darwin 6 September 1932. Albatross was built at Cockatoo Island dockyard (NSW) (commissioned 23 January 1929) and equipped with six supermarine seagull mark III seaplanes of the RAAF's no 101 flight. No local flying was reported and Albatross left Darwin on 15 September. Albatross was 'paid off' on 26 April 1933 and transferred to the Royal Navy 19 April 1938.,
