American Air Force and Australian Army personnel in front of the tail section of B24D Liberator Serial #42-40497 following a raid by 30 GGM1 'Betty' bombers and an escort of AGM3 'Zero' aircraft of the Japanese Naval Air Forces. This aircraft was a B24D-65-CO Liberator of the 528th Squadron 380th Bomb Group USAAF based at Fenton, 115 miles south of Darwin. It was named 'Homma Hommatis' and was destroyed, along with damage to the airfield runway, 10 other aircraft, and the fuel dumps set alight in the raid. The two men at right have their feet on one of the aircraft's oxygen bottles.,
