A groundwater investigation was undertaken in the Acacia area to determine the potential for horticulture. Twelve investigation holes were drilled, one was pump tested and geophysical traverses were carried out.
A high yielding dolomite aquifer runs north to south and is almost a kilometre wide. Its sustainable yield has been assessed at 1450Ml/year. A management plan is proposed, which defines extraction rates for several zones within the aquifer area and includes buffer zones to protect areas of spring monsoon
forest that occur at the aquifers natural discharge points. The dolomite aquifer only underlies a small portion of the vacant crown land proposed for development.The bulk of the area of vacant crown land is underlain by aquifers of low to moderate potential. The sustainable yield of these aquifers is assessed at 1.2ML/ha/year.,
