Description
Surveys were done of the diversity, distribution and abundance of vertebrate and invertebrate fauna in mangroves in Darwin Harbour. Fauna surveys at disturbed sites also investigated the effects of anthropogenic disturbance.
The factors which may delay recovery of damaged mangrove forests were also studied in a two‐year experiment on seedling survival and growth conducted in cyclone‐damaged and bulldozed forests. Multi-species plantings at three degraded sites tested different rehabilitation techniques. Field methods developed to facilitate natural recruitment showed promise for fast-tracking recovery of degraded ecosystems.,
