Description

Kormilda versus St Johns. The annual family friendly Lingalonga Festival has been held for the past six years under the canopy of the beautiful Rain trees at the picturesque Batchelor Oval. It's a day that's full of entertainment for all with over 40 market stalls, a poets breakfast, the Rum Jungle Dash, Football Matches and so on. This year saw the children from the Batchelor Area School creating and racing over 40 Hobby Horses, which was a massive hit for all involved, I found it an extremely rewarding experience photographing children as they jumped their Hobby Horses over hurdles, riding in the 100 meter sprints, and being judged on their presentation as they rode around in circles in the centre of the Batchelor Oval. Along with this was the Grand Parade, which marched up and down the centre of the market place with a colourful display of football and rugby banners that took over a month to make, once again by the children of the Batchelor Area School. The atmosphere at the Lingalonga Festival is one of peace with people siting under the shady Rain trees sharing their picnic baskets with friends and family whilst listening to the local bands and the laughter of children at play. The organisers estimated over 1300 people attended this year's event, which seems to be gaining in popularity each year.,
