Made available via the Publications (Legal Deposit) Act 2004 (NT)., The Gum Ridge Formation is being investigated as a possible water supply for horticultural development on Helen Springs station (Figure 1). The Gum Ridge Formation is part of the West Georgina Basin and is overlain by the Anthony Lagoon Beds. The Gum Ridge Formation is equivalent to the Tindal Limestone of the Daly Basin to the north. The Tindal limestone is a highly productive aquifer with the potential to support horticulture (Chin and Paiva, 1997). The Gum Ridge Formation is being investigated to see if the water quality is suitable for horticulture and if sustainable pumping at 10 l/s is possible. The investigation is also looking at the water quality in the overlying Anthony Lagoon Beds and to see what effects the generally lower quality water in the Anthony Lagoon Beds has on the Gum Ridge Formation. This includes seeing if the Anthony Lagoon Beds and Gum Ridge Formation are connected hydraulically and what effect pumping from the Gum Ridge Formation has on aquifers in the Anthony Lagoon Beds.,
