GIS tools were used to model areas where artesian conditions are likely to occur in two Daly Basin aquifers, the Tindall and Jinduckin aquifers. The outputs were modified to account for existing artesian bores and seasonal groundwater level fluctuations. The predicted artesian areas comprise narrow bands flanking the Daly River and its major tributaries.
Several factors limit the accuracy of this analysis. These include the accuracy of the Digital Elevation Model used, the fact that individual water levels used to construct water level surfaces were measured over a span of decades and that there is a patchy distribution of bores with water level information. As a result the area delineated as artesian has purposely been expanded slightly.
Recommendations are made on bore construction practices to be applied in these artesian zones.,
