Description

During August and September 2010, the Department of Natural Resources Environment, the Arts and Sport (NRETAS) conducted investigations to define the groundwater potential underlying the new City of Weddell. This work was funded by the Land Release Unit / Department of Planning and Infrastructure. This information would assist in determining water supply options for uses such as park irrigation and road construction in the new city. Seven bores were drilled in a number of hydrogeological environments during the program and generally indicated that only sparse low yielding aquifers are present. Localised fractured and weathered aquifers were mostly encountered by the investigation bores, and only two intersected permeability of some significance. There is negligible potential for obtaining groundwater supplies in Weddell which could sustain pumping rates above 0.5L/s (40kL/d).,
