Abstract
"In May 1995, the Women's Advisory Council received a request from the then Chief Minister, the Honourable Marshall Perron MLA, to report on "...women's experiences, perceptions and knowledge about the law and the ways in which the Government might deal with any issues which might arise". Terms of reference were drawn up by the Department of Law detailing the specific objectives of the report .., which was published in December 1995. The investigators were requested to summarise the outcomes of their consultations; identify factors which women perceived as barriers to the accessing of legal information and services; recommend means to improve access for women to such services and suggest strategies whereby women's knowledge and awareness about services might be increased." - Introduction,
