This ambitious multidisciplinary study set out to determine: the quantity of water used by rainforest patches; the source of this water; vegetation characteristics; seasonal patterns of substrate drying within the forest; the istorical patterns of change in rainforest boundaries and structure; and then to utilise these data to model water use and impact of water extraction on the rainforests. The intention was that model output would be used in planning water allocation in the Darwin Water Control District and used to assess the threat of saline water entering the aquifer system from coastal floodplains.,
