Description

This report summarises the nutrient and sediment loads and export coefficients measured at the Bennett Creek, Elizabeth River, Berry Creek, Peel Creek and Moil Drain gauge stations in the Darwin Harbour catchment during the period 2008-2012. Urbanisation increases the amounts of these pollutants to the harbour, though their environmental impact depends on their fate within the harbour environment. Pollutant loads were mostly similar to previous years with the exception of the 2010/11 wet season when the region received exceptionally high rainfall of between 2800 mm and 3300 mm, approximately double Darwin’s average annual rainfall. Pollutant loads in 2010/11 were the highest recorded at each of the three active stations due to high runoff volumes., Made available via the Publications (Legal Deposit) Act 2004 (NT).,

Notes

Field work for this study was carried out by Matt Majid, Stephen Cusack and staff of the Aquatic Health Unit. Simon Townsend provided helpful feedback on the draft report.,
