One afternoon whilst down at the Daly River crossing, I was making portraits of the local kids from the Nauiyu Community swimming in the water. To our astonishment, a crocodile of about 7ft crawled up onto the bank and expired directly in front of us. It was later discovered that the crocodile had died from consuming a Cane toad. This event was the talk of the town and from 6pm until dark, every child in the vicinity was eager to have their picture taken, astride the back of the crocodile. The corpse remained on the riverbank over night and was removed by a local Indigenous police officer early the next morning. It was hung in a tree behind the police station so as to be able to rot down to a perfectly intact skeleton; this was to be later used for educational purposes at the local primary school.,
